Cutting the bench seat supports from the south section of Bays 6 & 7 where the Balog Auction ring was set up from about 1974 until about 1992.
This pipe is finally being removed to accommodate construction of a small exit area inside bay 6 which will guide the public into & out of the Event Center (Bays 1-5). This is one of the exits for the space & was required in the Fire Safety work.
Venture Fabrication Ltd, Hanna, AB & family to HRS President Sandra Beaudoin, using a torch to cut the pipe into manageable pieces for removal.

Pipe has been cut apart, removed from Bays 6 & 7. Being loaded by Venture Fabrication Ltd. to be hauled off the property for salvage for the volunteer work by these generous volunteers.

Bays 6 & 7 empty for the 1st time in many years, at least to 1974 when the auction mart took over the space. Thank goodness businesses found use for the roundhouse to keep it from being demolished!
How wonderful this space looks free of clutter & construction foreign to the railroad roundhouse!
Pipe from the gas overhead heaters were cut out & removed by HRS volunteers. The wires hanging from the ceiling are from the drop ceiling for the auction ring. These will be cut down with the use of a manlift donated for use by Venture Fabrication Ltd. Work done by volunteers.
This was completed in June/July 2020 to allow the Fire Safety work to take place.

In 2017, the roundhouse was entered into a National Heritage initiative to raise funds for heritage sites namely, "This Place Matters". Supporters could donate funds directly, or go online to view information of each participant & donate to their selected history project online. Funds raised were put towards repairs to the roundhouse roof.
Aerial view of the roof of the 10 original 1913 engine bays taken in 2016. To the left, you will see the demolished 1919 section, demolished in 2012 since it was dangerous to those who wandered onto the private property. The outlined strips are the engine service pits for bays 11-15. The rectangular building on the top-right hand side of the roundhouse, is the 1913 CNoR Machine Shop/Boiler Room.
June 2015, we received Provincial Historic Designation which we were able to share the presentation of our designation medallion with retired CN railroaders at our August 2015 CN Retiree Reunion at the roundhouse.
Photos of the July 2014 Building Assessment by Macdonald & Lawrence Timber specialists & Darrel Babuk of Boreas Architecture & Design Ltd. The wooden roof was in amazingly good shape with very little rot in it. There are repairs which are required to the concrete, bricks & the wood. However, they are confident the repairs can be done with minimal intervention. The Historical Designation for the 8.97 acres of the roundhouse property, the roundhouse & boiler room, turntable, & the water tower foundation have been listed for protection. The application was submitted Feb 1, 2014 & we will soon hear about our designation. (Feb. 16, 2015).
